Liquid chromatography – organic carbon detection – organic nitrogen detection (LC-OCD-OND) is an analytical technique for identification and quantification of natural organic matter existed in aquatic environments and water-soluble synthetic organic matter in technical waters.
LC-OCD-OND, using size-exclusion chromatographic technique and optical spectroscopy, separates the natural organic matter ( NOM ) substances to measure the concentrations of dissolved organic carbon ( DOC ), hydrophobic organic carbon ( HOC ) and chromatographic dissolved organic carbon ( CDOC ). The technique is capable of separating natural organic matter based on apparent molecular weight into fractions of interest including biopolymers, humic substances, building blocks, low molecular weight acids and low molecular weight neutrals to provide an effective analysis of organic compounds within the tested water.
